Your Homes Newcastle is an Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) set up by the City Council on 1 April 2004 with responsibility for the management of 29,700 council homes including 28,500 current tenancies and over 1,400 leasehold properties in Newcastle. YHN is one of the key partners of the Council in delivering the aims set out in their Regeneration Strategy, and in turn the Corporate Plan.
We know that involving people in managing their homes and estates is vital to delivering better housing services so all of Newcastle City Council's tenants and leaseholders can have a say in the way that we provide services. We are working hard to make services more accessible for all of our customers, including customers who are disabled or who have a long term limiting illness.
YHN is governed by a Board, which is made up of 19 members: six each representing the Council, tenants and independants together with a Chair. The Board provides strategic leadership to the organisation and is answerable to the Council, plus the tenants and leaseholders, for its activities. The Board has delegated responsibility for some of its powers to key sub committees, and has also set up Time Limited Committees to focus on specific subjects to respond to emerging performance issues.
In addition to the main Board there are also three Area Boards, covering the east, inner west and outer west/north of the City. Their role is to monitor local performance, inform the development of the investment programmes, involve local tenants in governance of the organisation and take part in the planning of area budget expenditure.
The profile of the tenants of YHN has changed since 2004 as shown below:
