West Midlands Pension Fund
Director of Pensions
£120-125,000 per annum
West Midlands Pension Fund is one of the UK's largest public sector pension funds, providing a high quality, customer focused service to over 250,000 members and 180 active employers. Our in house investment team manages a diversified portfolio of assets, currently valued at £7.8bn. We aim to ensure that all of our members receive excellent customer care at all stages of their relationship with us, and we are widely regarded as a source of best practice, enjoying a national reputation for our expertise and service.
Our current Director of Pensions, Brian Bailey, is retiring. Nationally acknowledged as one of the leading experts in the field, Brian's are big shoes to fill. At the same time, the role has never been more important; you will be judged by how well we meet the challenges presented by the continuing unfavourable investment conditions and the fundamental changes presented by new pensions and retirement legislation.
As Director of Pensions you will be employed by the Fund's administering authority, Wolverhampton City Council. Reporting to the Council's Chief Executive and accountable to the Fund's Superannuation Committee, you will have delegated authority for administration and investment management arrangements and lead a team of highly skilled and dedicated experts to achieve excellent results for both members and employers.
Your leadership role will require you to influence national policy and strategy, ensuring that the region's interests are effectively represented and that the organisation's staffing and structure enable us to react to and take advantage of changing circumstances.
You will be able to demonstrate significant experience of leading large teams (50 plus) in the management and delivery of complex financial and administrative activities, including leadership of a sizeable transaction service.
Possessing a relevant professional qualification (ideally CIPFA) you will have extensive experience of pensions or related activities in both benefits and investments functions.
You will be able to demonstrate experience of leading change and managing projects, working in environments where customer service is paramount.
