The North East
The North East of England really does have it all - from wide open countryside and coastlines to cities that sparkle with chic designer stores and one of Europe's largest shopping centres.
Culture and the performing arts are varied and vibrant. The region hosts a number of theatres ranging from Newcastle Theatre Royal, Sunderlands Empire Theatre and the Sage Gateshead where you can catch anything from a Royal Shakespeare Company performance to a West End show.

Middlesborough
Famed as the birthplace of Captain James Cook, Middlesbrough has developed into an exciting town with some excellent restaurants and bars, vibrant nightlife and fantastic shopping. It has all the facilities you would expect from a large town with inexpensive accommodation, a wide variety of shops, theatres, art galleries, museums, pubs and nightclubs and entertainment.
Steeped in history, Thomas Sheraton, the famous furniture designer was born in Stockton, the first passenger railway opened in Stockton in 1825 and Middlesbrough was world famous for its iron production in the nineteenth century.
Middlesbrough is one of five boroughs that make up the Tees Valley – along with Darlington, Hartlepool, Stockton-on-Tees and Redcar and Cleveland. Each borough has its own distinctive character, although there are common qualities which characterise all of them; continued development and regeneration, rich heritage and friendly people. Maritime and Industrial heritage sit hand in hand with exciting urban towns, yet also the unspoilt splendour of the coastline and countryside.
Surrounding Area
Middlesbrough is ideally located for those who prefer the calmness of a more rural lifestyle and is within an easy commute of some of the North East’s most splendid towns and villages including Barnard Castle, Richmond and Bishop Auckland. There are many castles, walks and outdoor activities to get involved in and all within a 30 minute drive!
For those who prefer to hit the shops Darlington is within easy travelling distance of Durham, Middlesbrough, York, Harrogate, Newcastle and the Metrocentre.

Barnard Castle
Situated on the River Tees this ancient town is within a 25-minute drive of Darlington and is famous for more than just its Castle. Not far away is the village of Bowes the location for Dickens’ original ' Do the Boys Hall ' , the town is also famous for the unique Bowes Museum an 18th Century French Chateau in the middle of very British Countryside.
Richmond
Richmond is a small market town in North Yorkshire. 20 minutes drive from Darlington, it offers walks and relaxation as well as the infamous Georgian Theatre, one of the oldest theatres in the Country.
