Coventry is a lively multicultural city set within the heart of England. The cobbled streets and timber buildings of Coventry’s Cathedral Quarter offer an insight into the History of this famous city where the modern architecture of the new cathedral meets the ancient ruins of the old cathedral. The New Cathedral was recently voted Britain’s most popular 20th century building and is recognized as an International centre for Reconciliation. Although many of the old buildings were destroyed in the air raids of WWII there are traces of history to be found throughout the city.
Coventry & Warwickshire have long been associated with the Arts. The area was home to a number of literary figures including George Eliot, Philip Larkin, Rupert Brooke and of course William Shakespeare. The Belgrade Theatre is one of the largest producing theatres in Britain and the Warwick Arts Centre comprises an art gallery, theatre, concert hall and cinema. It is the second largest arts centre in the UK. Coventry is also host to a number of other Museums and galleries including the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, Coventry Toy Museum and the award winning Coventry Transport Museum – the world’s largest collection of British Road Transport. The nearby town of Stratford upon Avon is famous as Shakespeare’s birthplace and is the home of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
The City has plenty to offer sport lovers. The Ricoh Arena is a 32,000 capacity football stadium which is home to Coventry City Football Club. The city is also host to a number of successful sporting teams including Elite League Ice Hockey Champions Coventry Blaze, Coventry Rugby Club, Godiva Harriers Athletics Club & Coventry Bees Speedway. There is also a huge range of public Sports & Leisure facilities including an Olympic size swimming pool at Coventry Sport Centre, Ice skating at the Skydome arena and access to some of the best golfing centres in the country: The Belfry, home of the Ryder cup, is only a short drive away.
There can be no better location for experiencing the best that the Midlands has to offer as well as offering an excellent doorway to the rest of the UK and Europe. The local towns of Stratford, Warwick, Kenilworth and Royal Leamington Spa are within half an hour’s drive of a range of local attractions including Warwick Castle and the City of Birmingham is a stones throw away. The area is serviced by excellent road, rail and flight links with Birmingham International Airport on its doorstep and Coventry's own airport featuring low-cost airlines offering cheap flights to various destinations across Europe. London is 75 minutes away by train and the City is a hub for national motorway links M1, M42, and M6.
