Ormiston Maritime Academy is a mixed community school with 1000 students on roll.
Our highest priority is to provide an environment, which excites, inspires, motivates and challenges our students and prepares them for the world around them.
The Trust sponsors 17 academies nationwide providing a network of academies who share the same values. The network will provide transformational learning and the highest levels of achievement for students and the communities in which they live.
Fiona Ormiston Murray was a young woman with her whole life ahead of her. She and her new husband were tragically killed in a car crash on their honeymoon in 1969. The Murray family set up a trust in her name and now Ormiston’s programmes support thousands of children, young people and their families all over the UK.
Our Mission Statement
To provide a vibrant and engaging education for our students and their families in a safe, caring environment which widens horizons, builds confidence and independence and encourages excellence; so that all connected with the academy are able to make a positive contribution to society, realise their dreams and have happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.
A broad and balanced curriculum
As an academy we have far more freedom than many schools to provide a varied, innovative and stimulating curriculum that offers all students the chance to develop according to their talents, interest and ambitions.
In Years 7 & 8 students are assigned to a pathway according to their ability, allowing the teachers to personalise the learning according to the needs of the group.
In Years 9, 10 and 11 all students continue to study the core subjects of English, Maths, Science, PSHE and PE as well as choosing option subjects specific to their learning needs, be they academic, vocational or a mixture of both.
We encourage our more able students to follow the English Baccalaureate, For some, we offer the opportunity to take GCSE’s early and have strong links with Franklin 6th Form College, Grimsby Institute and other vocational providers to ensure that students have the widest possible range of options and career choice.
We are also able to offer support and encouragement for students with special educational needs and those gifted and talented students who show particular aptitude in creative, sporting and academic subjects.
