Training & Development

NTW Trust places a high value on the teaching and training of future health professionals. All of our doctors are expected to participate in teaching and training. Some doctors will have additional responsibilities as clinical teachers, supervisors or tutors. The purpose of the Medical Education Department is to support the work the Trust does in teaching medical students and training junior doctors.

The NTW Trust is the main provider of clinical experience in mental health for clinical medical students from Newcastle University. They come to us for essential rotations in mental health in their third year and final year. In addition a number of students choose to spend time doing Student Selected Components in mental health in their fourth year.

Under the umbrella of the Northern Deanery, we train a wide variety of postgraduate doctors at NTW Trust. We host placements for Foundation Programme doctors, core and advanced trainees in psychiatry and general practice vocational trainees.
