England’s housing associations play a vital role. From a core business of providing high quality homes for the rapidly growing number of people whose needs are not met by the present market, they have expanded into a wide range of housing and neighbourhood based services. They build safe, secure and sustainable neighbourhoods: great places as well as great homes. Their success touches the lives of millions and can be truly transformational.
The National Housing Federation is their trade body. We exist ‘to support and promote the work of housing associations and campaign for better housing and neighbourhoods’. In an increasingly challenging economy our work is critical to ensuring that the work of housing associations can flourish.
We have an unprecedented opportunity to make even more of an impact with the new government and the public – an impact that will have a direct effect on the quality of life of the 5 million people who are already housing association residents, those who will become our residents and the many millions more whose neighbourhoods and lives are improved by the work done by housing associations.
The current UK economic outlook and the Government’s cuts in public expenditure are likely to herald a challenging financial operating environment for the housing association sector. Coupled to this, UK accounting rules are on the verge of being converged with international financial reporting standards, a process that could have a dramatic impact on housing association accounts. Never before has the role of the Finance Policy team at the Federation been more important. Housing associations are looking to us to influence decisions made by Government, the regulator and other authorities in order to secure the best outcomes possible.
To continue to provide the best possible service to our members we need to recruit a Finance Policy Officer.
Within a team of two, you will identify and research finance policy issues and lobby on behalf of members. You will provide leadership and an authoritative voice on issues which have a bearing on the sector’s collective financial strength and help to enhance the sector’s image and positive reputation. The Finance Policy team at the National Housing Federation offers a stimulating and enjoyable working environment with plenty of scope for a high calibre person to develop to their full potential and exercise their skills. Does this sound like you?
Our vision and ambition is big. The Federation is an exciting place to be – at the centre of a key area of social policy at a time of huge challenge and change. We can help to shape that change. Can you help us to deliver? If you can, get in touch. We need to hear from you.
Yours sincerely,
David Orr
