Head of Facilities Management
I am delighted that you are interested in the opportunity to work with us at Merton. Serving the people of this Borough is a privilege; we are looking for someone whose technical skills are matched by the ability to lead a team and shape a service to best support the 2000+ staff, working across an estate of over 100 buildings, to make Merton a great place to live.
Our council is successfully transforming, identifying major efficiencies across all service areas, as well as finding new and creative ways to maintain and enhance those services that we know our residents value. Facilities Management at Merton is at the heart of a number of key strategies that will enable staff to be more productive, work in a modern, energy efficient environment that makes the best use of our assets and facilitate our move towards genuine flexible working. At the same time, we are making great strides in commercialising our FM at Merton, selling a range of services to organisations across the Borough and beyond.
This is a broad and challenging role. Facilities Management at Merton is much more than stationery and janitorial supplies, as important as these functions are. You will also manage day to day maintenance across our significant portfolio of buildings, as well as leading capital works projects. For example, we are just about to embark on a £3 million project to replace all the windows at the Civic Centre, with no staff downtime. As Head of Facilities Management, the successful delivery of this project will rest with you.
Given the scale and complexity of the role, only a genuine leader will succeed. The great news is that you will be inheriting a well managed, technically expert team. You will be expected to build on our existing culture of customer excellence and high performance, where your team are seen as solutions providers, known for getting things done. Just as important will be your dynamism and drive to grow our commercial income as well as delivering great service.
In return, we can offer you a first class working environment, as part of a cohesive and supportive team that are committed to doing good things for the Borough. In my career with Merton, I have benefited from professional and personal development in an organisation with real character, where the work is challenging, but definitely enjoyable. In my teams I promote a strong working ethos that puts the customer front and centre. Doing that for such a complex service, covering both facilities management and building repairs and maintenance will be both rewarding and I hope terrific fun.
I do hope you decide to apply for this exciting role and look forward to hearing from you.
