Equus is the US oil & gas company Hess' first enterprise in Australia. Hess in a mid-tier integrated oil company that explores, produces, transports, and refines crude oil and natural gas. It currently has exploration and production operations in the United States, United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark, Russia, Equatorial Guinea, Algeria, Libya, Gabon, Egypt, Ghana, the Joint Development Area of Malaysia and Thailand, Indonesia, Thailand, Azerbaijan, Australia, Brazil, and St. Lucia.
The Equus lease (originally designated WA-390-P) was acquired in 2007 and consists of several natural gas and condensate gas fields in the northern Carnarvon Basin 300 km west of Karratha and 180km north of North West Cape. It is estimated to hold between 1 trillion and three trillion cubic feet of gas in water depths between 1 and 1.2 km.
Hess has contracted Wood Group Kenny to provide the FEED (front-end engineering and design) services for the subsea engineering, umbilical and flowlines, export pipeline and tie-ins scope of the project.
Australian company Worley Parsons will undertake on a gas platform and moorings.
At the time of writing Equus is still in concept and design stage and FID (final investment decision) is not anticipated to occur until 2013.
