Formed in 1965 by merging the former metropolitan boroughs of Islington and Finsbury, Islington is situated in the heart of London. Islington is a vibrant and diverse cultural community with over 180,000 people living and working within the Borough. The “community feel” in Islington makes the Borough unique and is key to Homes for Islington’s ethos. With a wide variety of cultural attractions ranging from the Emirates Stadium to the Sadlers Wells Theatre, Islington is a fashionable location to work within.
With a rich history and many famous associations, Islington boasts amazing architecture coupled with a vibrant and creative atmosphere. Period squares with famous past residents, the thriving Upper Street with an abundance of mouth watering eateries and not forgetting one of the top Premiership football teams, there are a variety of attractions.
There are some exciting projects going on within the Borough to enhance the lives of the people that live and work within Islington. Public Space Improvement programmes aim to reduce street clutter, provide new landscaping and cycle lanes, to name but a few enhancements. Homes for Islington are constructing their first new council houses for a generation aiming to be completed by this summer.
