About The Garden Primary School

Garden Primary is a two-form entry school currently with 430 pupils and serves a wide ethnic and social mix in Mitcham in the London Borough of Merton. The school is housed within two buildings on a large site encompassing a large field and developing environmental area. The school has its own swimming pool, which is used by the children and offers lessons to families within the community.

Our children are a delightful mix of characters that work hard and play hard. They are enthusiastic learners who have confidence in expressing themselves. They are well represented by the active school council who meet regularly.

The school is well resourced with a committed teaching staff, a large number of skilled Learning Support Assistants and an effective administration team.

As part of the recent developments in Early Years Foundation Stage practice the Nursery and Reception classes are merged to form a Foundation Stage Unit in September 2007. The Ivy Garden Child Centre opened in April 2008. They Ivy Garden Child Centre offers exciting opportunities to the wider community. Garden Primary is also able to provide many opportunities for additional learning to our families and community. We also have the ‘Read Hut’ on site, which offers childcare for children from 1 year and provides wrap around care through breakfast and after school clubs both to our children and those from two other local schools.

The School has a Speech & Language Unit (Additional Resourced Provision), which offers places to children with statements, awarded by the Local Authority. These children are fully integrated within the life of the school and are supported by a dedicated team of teachers, including a Speech Therapist and support workers.
