“I am delighted that you are interested in joining Futures Community College. Futures is on an incredible journey to provide outstanding opportunities for young people so that success becomes an entitlement for everyone. As a sign of this commitment we opened a £20m state of the art Upper College Building in 2010 in which we provide a unique blend of academic, applied and vocational learning to Futures school students and to other learners including apprentices.
Many of our students are from deprived backgrounds and many join us with low prior attainment and low reading ages. Many have English as an additional language and a high proportion of students are on the SEN register. We have high aspiration and a robust optimism about our students and what they are capable of. One of our strategic aims is to support the emotional well-being and resilience of all members of the Futures community including students and their families and our staff so that Futures is a place where everyone can thrive and develop.
We are pleased with our recent improvements in results but our aim is to achieve even more. The percentage of students achieving 5 or more A*-C GCSE passes with English and Maths has increased from 25% in 2009 to 31% in 2010 to 43% in 2011. Student numbers are rising as a result of our growing reputation. This is an exciting time to join Futures and we know that we have further to go in order to provide nothing but the best for all our students. As we continue to grow, we look forward to welcoming new colleagues who share our ethos and want to contribute to our journey.
