Futures Community College is a truly unique and exciting place. We are an improving and a growing school/college, but we are much more than that. We are regularly visited by national political leaders and policy makers, including Lord Hill and Lord Baker and Ed Miliband and Ed Balls. They want to see how we are creating a new, successful learning campus in which Futures school students, 14-16 year olds from other local schools and post-16 learners including apprentices are all working and learning together.

Key Stage 3 is delivered in years 7 and 8. In Key Stage 3 we have for some time had an “integrated curriculum” in year 7 and in 2012-13 we are developing this further with a brand new “Connected Curriculum” in both years 7 and 8. This will enable students to make connections between their learning in English and Humanities subjects. They will also focus on developing strong core learning skills.

In year 9 students begin their Key Stage 4 learning. We are developing our approach to take advantage of all the wider opportunities that exist here for students to take practical courses in areas such as: construction, engineering, painting and decorating, carpentry and joinery, hair and beauty.

Post-16 students at Futures come from a variety of backgrounds. Our provision includes sixth form, further education and apprenticeship programmes delivered in our outstanding Upper College which has unrivalled facilities. The learning environment mirrors the workplace so that learners wear work apparel appropriate for their area of study – including business studies learners wearing suits and hair learners wearing tunics.

It is when all these elements are brought together that you get a real sense of what Futures Community College represents.
