- Three School Achievement Awards from the DFES.
- Three Charter Marks for Excellence Awards
- Three Investors in People Awards
- Investors in Careers Award
- Sports Mark Award
- Arts Mark Award
We have enjoyed Technology College status for the past 13 years, which has brought significant investment in Science, Mathematics, Design Technology and Information Communication Technology. All subjects within the college enjoy access to outstanding ICT facilities, particularly in the application of ICT skills to the learning process. Associated with this investment has been a planned INSET programme for all Teaching and non-Teaching staff focusing on Teaching and Learning strategies to aid improvement within subject areas.
In 2003 we became one of the first 103 Leading Edge Schools following on from six months work as a Beacon School. Our Leading Edge work is part of the development of a LA wide strategic policy for the development and improvement of all schools. In particular we work closely with Telford & Wrekin Council’s Hadley Learning Community school.
This provides us with an outstanding opportunity to influence the curriculum, to share and extend good practice and to consolidate the work currently undertaken. We seek to support and to develop joint innovative working methods across the two colleges, particularly at Key Stage 4. This is central to an emerging Telford & Wrekin LA policy on 14-19 education. The policy seeks to establish a networked learning community of schools and colleges where a key strategic aim is the effective dissemination of good practice.
This year saw a 7% increase in 5 A*-C including English and Maths results and all our evidence suggests that this upward trend is likely to continue. The college is unique in its provision for students with special education needs in that it caters for 45 statemented children and has a national reputation for its work with dyslexic students.
Ercall Wood has developed a highly successful vocational curriculum in Leisure & Tourism, Health & Social Care, Business Administration and Manufacturing utilizing Travel to Learn, work-based placement and ICT Diploma. Our curriculum model also includes Enterprise days and PSHE days.
We are also proud of our European links and have enjoyed partnerships with schools in a number of European cities. We were one of the forerunners in developing the use of video conferencing as a means of teaching with a school in Minnesota, USA.
This is a pro-active school with a desire to achieve excellence. We have benefited from high quality partnerships with parents, governors and local industry which we are keen to extend.
We are now planning our development under Building Schools for the Future. This represents an exciting opportunity for all members of the school community to realise a vision that will innovate both facilities and curriculum provision.
In June 2009 Ofsted found the school to be good in all areas. The following observations encapsulate the healthy ethos of Ercall Wood.- Students feel safe
- Students make good progress
- Students' personal development and well-being are good
- Students receive good quality care and guidance
- Good teaching can be seen throughout all departments.
- Students enjoy their lessons
- Good relationships exist between students and with staff
We are looking to recruit staff who share our belief that effective learning is built on a foundation of positive relationships with pupils and parents. In return you will benefit from a school dedicated to provide an effective and happy environment for all. Thank you for taking the time to consider our school. I look forward to receiving your application.
