Welcome

Dear Candidate

I am absolutely delighted that you have shown an interest in applying for this key post at the Community Science College.

Since my appointment only last September, I have been able to recognise the great strides the College has made in a relatively short time; in March 2010, the most recent Ofsted inspection judged the College to be “Good”.   Since that time, outcomes for students, behaviour and the quality of teaching have all improved significantly.  Last summer, 57% of students achieved 5A*-C grades including English and Maths, and value-added stood at 1033.2 (top position in the whole of Kirklees).  These are achievements the College can justifiably be proud of.

We are very much on the way towards being judged “Outstanding”, and it is the role of everyone within the organisation to make this ambition a reality.

In June this year, the College will become an Academy. This has been made possible as a result of the College’s strong performances over the past 3 years. Thornhill Community Academy, which will be an Academy in its own right and not subject to external or chain sponsorship, represents a real opportunity for the local and regional communities, and it is my aim and that of all colleagues to tap into the wealth of potential held by all our students to help them to compete in tomorrow’s world.

You can see that this is an excellent time to join the College. If you are successful in securing the post, I expect you to have ambition for the students and for yourself.  As a College, we take pride in ensuring colleagues receive opportunities to develop their skills and experiences, and we have an enviable reputation for delivering high-quality professional development in a number of areas. Again, if you are successful, we will expect you to contribute to this ethos.

The Governors are absolutely passionate about securing the very best for the Academy and the Community – they will expect commitment and drive, but coupled with sensibility and humility.  A sense of humour and a willingness to work hard are also huge attributes.

Prior to submitting an application, we would be delighted to invite you to pay us a visit. This will enable you to get a feel for the College, see how we operate, and see whether you can make a contribution to our future success.

If you wish to take advantage of this opportunity, please contact Kate Williamson at Hays, our recruitment partner to arrange a convenient time.

In the meantime, I very much look forward to hearing from you – I appreciate the amount of time that goes into an application, so thank you in advance for considering joining us.

Very best regards

Jonny Mitchell
