Project Status

Onshore FEED studies for Pluto 2 are now complete. A Final Investment Decision (FID) for the expansion remains contingent on securing sufficient volumes of economically viable gas resources, either through exploration and/or other resource owners. Project work will continue into 2011 to achieve the investment case for Pluto expansion.

Project Information

Pluto 2 will be built alongside phase one of Woodside's Pluto LNG Plant which is located at Dampier Port on the Burrup Peninsula Western Australia. The project is on track to become the fastest developed liquefied natural gas project in the world from discovery of the gas field in 2005 to first LNG in 2011.

The LNG plant at phase one will be producing 4.3MTPA (million tonnes per annum). The expansion plans for Pluto 2 will see a similarly sized second LNG train built which is expected to be completed in 2014 this again will increase the annual production volume considerably.

Woodside want to develop the second Pluto train by the end of this year to improve the economics of the overall Pluto project but is yet to provide any capital cost estimates. Plans for a third LNG train are also under way.

The total area of the Pluto leases for the onshore facility is about 200ha, of which the plant and associated infrastructure will cover about 80ha.

Current storage and loading facilities at the plant include two LNG tanks with a combined capacity of 120,000 m³, three smaller condensate tanks and an LNG and condensate export jetty.

Woodside's master planning studies have also confirmed that the Pluto LNG Park can accommodate an expansion of up to five LNG trains.
